Who we are
Left Middle News (“Left Middle,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) operates the website at leftmiddle.com and the Left Middle News mobile apps for iOS and Android (together, the “Services”). This Privacy Policy describes how we handle information when you use the Services.
Information we collect
We aim to collect as little personal information as possible. The categories below describe what may be collected when you use the Services.
Information you provide
If you contact us by email, we receive the information you choose to send (your email address and the contents of your message). If you subscribe to Left Middle Premium, your subscription is processed by Apple or Google—we do not receive or store your payment card information.
Information collected automatically
When you use the Services, we and our service providers may automatically collect:
- Device and app information (device type, operating system version, app version, language, time zone).
- Usage information (pages or articles viewed, sources you follow, app interactions, crash and performance diagnostics).
- Approximate location derived from your IP address (we do not collect precise GPS location).
- Identifiers used for analytics, push notifications, and advertising (such as a device advertising identifier, when permitted by your device settings).
Content you store locally
Articles you read, sources you select, saved stories, and your preferences are cached on your device so the Services work offline. This data lives on your device and is not transmitted to us unless required to deliver a feature you have requested.
How we use information
- To operate and improve the Services.
- To deliver content, the Daily Briefing, and push notifications you have opted in to receive.
- To measure usage, diagnose problems, and prevent abuse or fraud.
- To serve advertising in the free version of our apps.
- To respond to your support requests.
- To comply with legal obligations.
Third-party services
We use a small number of third-party services to operate the Services. Each is subject to its own privacy policy.
- Google Analytics— helps us understand how the website is used. Google Analytics may set cookies and collect aggregated usage data. See Google’s privacy policy at policies.google.com/privacy.
- Google AdMob— serves advertisements in the free version of our mobile apps. AdMob may use device identifiers to deliver and measure ads. You can limit ad tracking through your device’s privacy settings (on iOS, App Tracking Transparency; on Android, Ad ID controls).
- Firebase (Google)— used for push notifications, crash reporting, and app analytics in our mobile apps. Firebase may process device identifiers and diagnostic data on our behalf.
- Apple App Store and Google Play— process all subscription billing for Left Middle Premium. We receive only the information needed to confirm an active subscription; we do not see your payment card details.
We do not sell your personal information. We do not share it with third parties for their own marketing purposes.
Your choices
- Push notifications.You can disable notifications in the app’s settings or through your device’s system settings at any time.
- Ad tracking.On iOS, you can decline tracking under Settings › Privacy & Security › Tracking. On Android, you can reset or delete your advertising ID in Google settings.
- Analytics. You can use a browser that blocks analytics cookies, or install the Google Analytics Opt-Out add-on.
- Local data. Uninstalling the app removes the local cache and any saved preferences stored on your device.
Your rights
Depending on where you live (including residents of the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, and certain U.S. states such as California), you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or port your personal information, and to object to or restrict certain processing. To exercise any of these rights, email us at support@leftmiddle.com. We will respond within the period required by applicable law.
Children
The Services are not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from a child under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
Data retention
We keep information only as long as needed for the purposes described in this policy or as required by law. Aggregated or de-identified data may be retained for longer to help us improve the Services.
Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
International users
The Services are operated from the United States. If you use the Services from outside the United States, you understand that your information may be processed in the United States, where data protection laws may differ from those of your country.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Effective” date above. If changes are material, we will provide additional notice (for example, through the app or our website).
